Why do two birds sit ten feet away on a wire?

By Helena Weiss

Yes those two       birds

The very same you saw as a 7  year old

Black wings resting, shining in the sun

You passed by them so fast you could hardly focus on the

color.

Was it the sun that made them shine so dark or was it

Shadows that had them filtered as so?

But that

distance

made you wonder, as your mother held you tight,

Was it a quarrel that had caused it or an iridescent fight

The passing         cars             had moved away

Giving you a small window to see it

Yet your 7 year young eyes only saw the distance

You didn’t focus on the colour or your mother’s tight-wound

grasp,

you only saw the distance and that’s what made you inquire:

Why do two          birds            sit ten feet away on a wire?
