Forewords: Issue 010

Welcome to Issue 10 of Jenny Magazine

When Jordan approached me about doing a play contest for this issue, I could’ve cried with excitement. My love for new plays has been intense since I first started writing plays myself, and the prospect of being able to provide an opportunity for a playwright’s voice to be heard was overwhelming for me.

There is something so magical about being a playwright. The whole idea of creating something through collaboration, of hearing something aloud and reworking it and reworking it and reworking it until it finally sounds right; about writing something that becomes bigger than yourself because there are so many people involved in its creation and production; the idea of a written piece being different every time because it will always be performed by different people in a different place in front of a different audience. It all seems completely unreal to me. We hope that in our play selections, you find some of that magic.

We would like to thank all of our submitters and our readers for your continued support. Special thanks also to the members of Alpha Psi Omega, our theater department honors society, for acting as judges and performers for our contest this year. We hope that everyone enjoys all of the pieces this year and will continue to support us as we go on into the future.

I’m thankful for a lot this issue. I’m thankful for our lovely contributors, for our community, for the members of Alpha Psi Omega and the Student Government Association. I’m especially thankful for my staff, who read through our numerous submissions with diligence to create another issue that I’m excited to share with the world.

We had so many great submissions this period, and we worked hard to choose the best of the best for this issue. We have stories with real characters that will tug on your heartstrings, keep you glued to your seat reading; we have poetry with lines that will linger in your mind for days. So I recommend you take your time with this issue—read it, savor it. Enjoy it, because we’ve certainly enjoyed making it for you.
